Speech therapy

Speech therapists are practitioners who assess and rehabilitate persons of all ages with communication disorders related to oral and written language, speech, articulation and voice. 
They also treat persons who experience difficulties relating to swallowing and orofacial motricity as well as learning disabilities and mathematical cognition. 
Speech therapy utilises (re)habilitative strategies (which aim to control and/or stimulate the deficient function). It also uses palliative strategies when a rapid recovery is not feasible (communication notebooks, IT resources, etc.). 
This work requires a long-term vision (months or even years); success will only be achieved by means of a solid relationship and if the patient and/or his family circle is/are sufficiently motivated.

• Screening, assessment and (re)habilitation of dysphagia 
• Language assessment within the context of pathologies related to aging (Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, etc.) 
• Collaboration with the paramedical team during various activities (group meals, group language, etc.)
• Screening and follow-up on an outpatient basis and with the geriatric liaison service

in rehabilitation 

• Rehabilitation of aphasia, dysphagia and dysarthria, induced by neurological damage with impairment of the peripheral and/or central nervous system
• Collaboration with the neuropsychologist in the management of the consequences of the cognitive damage and speech impairment on the patient's everyday life (communication notebooks, memory notebooks, etc.)
• Psycho-education sessions with the patient and his loved ones
