Mission Ethics Committee

To staff members

When faced with an ethical dilemma in your daily practice, you may submit your queries to the committee and it will make every endeavour to assist you.   It will examine your concerns at its next meeting and will inform you of its opinion; it can also meet with you in person if you so desire. Your request is of course covered by the obligations of professional secrecy and the entire procedure will be conducted in total confidentiality.

If it is urgent, your request will, to the extent possible, be expedited.

Clinical trials

All studies and clinical trials scheduled to be conducted at the hospital must be submitted to and approved by the ethics committee beforehand. Its opinion is legally binding. The ethics committee shall issue its response within 28 days from the date of receipt of the complete file. In order to meet the criteria set out in Belgian law pertaining to this matter, we have detailed for you below the procedures to be followed and, in particular, the list of documents to be sent to us.

Hospital administration

Another key objective of the Ethics Committee is to reflect on the core ethical themes which lie within the framework of the organisation and functioning of clinical services (confidentiality, information intended for patients and their families, euthanasia, restraint, etc.). The committee may also be consulted in these areas.
