Civil registration

The Civil Registry is there to accompany you in the most beautiful moments of your life, the birth of a child, as well as in the most difficult ones, the loss of a loved one.

DO YOU WISH TO OBTAIN MORE INFORMATION ON REGISTERING THE BIRTH OF YOUR CHILD?

ST-ELISABETH SITE (UCCLE)

The birth of every child born in Uccle must be registered by the father, the mother or both within 15 (calendar) days after birth.

Where? When?

  • At the Local Council:

Every week-day between the hours of 8.30am and 3pm.

The required documents   

  • The information sheet provided by the hospital (issued by eBirth)
  • The parents' identification cards
  • The marriage certificate if the parents are married 
  • A copy of the document formally recognising the child pre-birth, if applicable
  • The document indicating the chosen name signed by both parents

The legal deadline for registering a birth: 15 days

If you don’t declare your child within 15 legal calendar after the birth, the registration will be made by the civil registration officer.

Please note the following:

If the child's parents are not married and did not formally recognise the child before birth, registration of the birth must be done at the Local Council of Uccle in order to do the registration of the formal recognition of paternity in the same time as the birth certificate. Different documents are required: civil status and nationality certificates, certificate of residency and custom certificate if registrants are not on the national register.

ST-MICHEL SITE (ETTERBEEK)

As (a) young parent(s), you must register the birth of your child at the Civil Registry of the city where your child was born.

The legal deadline for registering a birth: 15 days

Art. 55: The child's birth is recorded by the Registrar in the place of birth within fifteen days after delivery. When the last day of this time limit falls on a Saturday, Sunday or a bank holiday, the deadline is extended to the following working day.

To register the birth of your child, you are required to provide the following documents:

  • The information sheet provided by the hospital (issued by eBirth)
  • The identity cards of the mother and father
  • For married couples: the marriage certificate
  • For non-married couples: a copy of the formal recognition of the child pre-birth in cases where it was drawn up in a city other than the place of birth. If no formal pre-birth recognition exists, both parents must be present in the case where the father wishes to recognise the child.
  • The document registering the chosen name

  • Walk-in office hours for the city of Etterbeek at the St-Michel site: 
    Monday morning from 9.30am till 12.00pm, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9.30am till 12.30pm, on the ground floor (02-614 36 65) - without appointment.
