HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR STAY AT THE GERIATRIC DAY HOSPITAL?

After having set the date for the appointment with the patient, the geriatric day hospital sends a letter explaining how the day will unfold. This letter is supplemented by information on the reason for hospitalisation. Among other things, it indicates whether or not the patient must be fasting on the day of his appointment.
For certain assessments, it is preferable that you be accompanied by a friend or relative. This is also mentioned in the letter.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING?

  • Your identity card
  • The prescription to be followed during your stay in the geriatric day hospital (in case it was sent by the treating physician)
  • The list of medications
  • The medications usually taken for the day
  • Glasses and/or hearing aids
  • Any technical aids (cane)

WHERE DO I GO?

Before going to the day-patient geriatric unit, please register at the hospitalisation admission desk located on the ground floor (Level 0, opposite the Ovalis restaurant).
Then proceed towards the day-patient geriatric unit (+2H) using the lifts situated near the mezzanine level of the stairway of the Hospital’s main entrance (near the dialysis centre).

WHAT HAPPENS DURING MY HOSPITAL STAY?

Patients are admitted on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The unit is open from 8am to 5pm.

Upon your arrival, you are welcomed by a nurse who will explain the day's programme to you. If you so desire, a friend or relative may stay with you.
Lunch is provided and depending on what time you arrived at the unit, breakfast is also provided.

You may rest in a room featuring several armchairs between the various examinations. You will be accompanied on a stretcher during your examinations in the hospital.

A medical report summarising your different examinations will be sent to your treating physician.

WHO WILL MANAGE THE PATIENT?

The patient will be received by a nurse from the unit and assisted by members of the multidisciplinary team depending on the assessments to be performed.

WILL MEALS BE PROVIDED FOR THE PATIENT?

Yes

WHAT HAPPENS AT DISCHARGE?

The patient may either leave:

  • On his/her own;
  • Using medical transportation;
  • Or with family who collect him/her.
