About the oncology-haematology unit
Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the examination and treatment of malignant tumours or cancers. Our service brings together two specialities or divisions, namely haematology - which deals with blood diseases, both benign and malignant - and medical oncology. Our goal is to treat patients in an optimal and integrated way.
The Division of Medical Oncology provides treatment and support to cancer patients by administering medications. Our service is provided by an outpatient clinic, a day hospital and a hospitalization division. The outpatient clinic takes care of consultations for both new patients and patients undergoing follow-up. On the other hand, the day hospital specializes in the administration of cancer treatments (chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy) to cancer patients as well as supportive treatments (transfusions, antibodies, etc.). The day hospital also takes care of any other cancer treatment that does not take more than one working day. The hospitalization unit is open to patients undergoing a long-term treatment (chemotherapy), patients living too far away to receive outpatient radiotherapy, patients who have side effects, who feel weak or for whom the most appropriate treatment needs to be determined.
The Division of Haematology treats patients with abnormalities and blood diseases, as well as diseases related to blood components (bone marrow), the lymphatic system, the immune system and blood clotting. Both the diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of these diseases, whether malignant or benign, myeloproliferative or lymphoproliferative, diseases affecting blood clotting, thromboses and immune system disorders fall within the competence of the Division of Haematology. The Divisions of Medical Oncology and Haematology offer the same facilities.
In collaboration with the divisions of Radiotherapy, Surgery and Nuclear Medicine (which provides radioisotope treatments), as well as the different specialities involved, we are able to offer a first-line treatment for all cancer pathologies.
The Divisions of Oncology and Haematology put patients at the centre of their services. Through a multidisciplinary approach (Multidisciplinary Oncology Consultation - MOC), our private doctors and general practitioners determine the most appropriate therapy for patients. They assess the diagnosis and develop the patient's treatment plan. The MOC results are discussed with the patient and their family, in order to propose the most appropriate treatment plan for that specific patient.
All doctors of the divisions of Oncology and Haematology have received training in national and foreign medical centres. They can speak at least three languages (French, Dutch and English). Our goal is to minimize waiting times, advise and treat patients in a fast and efficient way. Patient care is personalized as the same doctor will continue follow-up during the entire duration of the patient’s illness.
We can also count on our excellent paramedical assistance. The patient and his family will not only benefit from psychological assistance, but also the care of a beautician ("wellness" treatments), not to mention the practical help provided by our social workers. In addition, a large group of specially trained volunteers make themselves available to our patients every day to assist and support them in their difficult cancer treatment programme. Furthermore, the clinic has developed an integrated programme for cancer rehabilitation called EuroFit. This is aimed at stimulating fitness after the end of a cancer treatment, under the supervision of the division of physiotherapy, with support from psychologists and dieticians.

Friends of the Europe Hospitals Fund
The aim of the Friends of the Europe Hospitals Fund is to help the hospital's medical services to improve the patient's experience of care.
A ‘Friends of Fund’ is managed by the King Baudouin Foundation. The smooth running of the ‘Friends of’ Fund is ensured by a management committee on which the founders are represented. Donations of €40 or more per year to the Foundation benefit from a tax reduction of 45% of the amount actually paid (art. 145/33 CIR)'. Thanks to the guarantee provided by the King Baudouin Foundation, donors make their donations in complete confidence, knowing that they will be used for the specific projects for which they have been asked.
Our current project: Integrative Oncology Care Pathway
We want to improve the experience of patients undergoing One Day oncology treatment at our 2 hospital sites.
By offering them a chance to escape for a while during and after their treatment, we hope to have a positive impact on their healing process. Our integrated care pathway includes: access to fitness or creative activities, a moment of celebration at the end of treatment, a cocoon kit for their return home, theme days and a varied, up-to-date library.
