Welcome to Dr Josephine Behaegel

The Europe Hospitals would like to welcome Dr Joséphine Behaegel, who has recently joined the Ophthalmology Department.

Dr Joséphine Behaegel obtained her master's degree in medicine from Ghent University in 2014. She then specialised in ophthalmology at the VUB (Vrije Universiteit Brussel). She had the opportunity to develop her scientific ambitions by preparing a PhD at the Universities of Antwerp and Brussels on ‘transplantation of cultured limbic stem cells’. In addition to obtaining her doctorate, her scientific commitment has led to numerous international publications and presentations.

In 2020, she moved to Ireland for three years to further her knowledge as an ophthalmologist. There she worked in several sub-disciplines, but above all deepened her knowledge of the cornea. On her return from Ireland, she worked as an ophthalmologist at UZ Brussel for a year.

At the Europe Hospitals, her ambition, together with Dr Fraenkel, is to further develop the cornea sub-specialty. She is also a cataract surgeon with expertise in refractive surgery.
