Functional urology
Functional urology focuses on the study and treatment of disorders affecting the function of the urinary system and the pelvic floor, without a direct link to tumor-related diseases. Its goal is to identify and correct dysfunctions that impair patients’ quality of life.
Among the conditions treated are, for example:
- Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH): A non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate, common in aging men, which can cause urinary difficulties and significant discomfort.
- Urinary incontinence in women and men: The involuntary loss of urine, which may result from pelvic floor weakness or other dysfunctions, affecting daily life.
- Pelvic organ prolapse: A descent or sagging of the pelvic organs, often observed in women after pregnancy or with age, causing discomfort and functional complications.
The approach in functional urology is based on comprehensive and personalized care. It may include conservative treatments, pelvic floor rehabilitation programs, or, when necessary, minimally invasive surgical interventions. The ultimate goal is to restore normal function and improve patients’ comfort and quality of life.
