The Europe Hospitals are pleased to welcome Dr. Erik de Worm, who recently joined the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department.
Dr. de Worm graduated as a cardiac surgeon from KU Leuven and worked as a staff member at UZ Gasthuisberg, ZNA Middelheim, and AZ Delta.

Throughout his career, he has developed particular expertise in off-pump multi-arterial coronary surgery — a technique in which arterial bypasses are performed on a beating heart without the use of a heart-lung machine.

In recent years, he has developed a passion for minimally invasive coronary surgery — both robot-assisted and non-robot-assisted — performed through a small left intercostal incision, as well as minimally invasive aortic valve surgery performed through a right intercostal incision. These approaches avoid opening the breastbone and promote a faster and more comfortable recovery for patients.

The goal is to further develop these minimally invasive cardiac procedures and the robotic program within the Europe Hospitals so that, in close collaboration with the cardiologists, the least invasive and most personalized treatment possible can be offered to every cardiac patient.

We warmly welcome him and wish him every success in this new adventure with us!
