Dr Michiel Verfaillie appointed Head of Neurosurgery
Dr Verfaillie is a neurosurgeon who trained at KU Leuven, then at UZ Leuven and ZOL in Genk.
He has a particular interest in brain oncology and minimally invasive spinal surgery techniques, as well as pituitary surgery and peripheral nerve pathology. He chaired the Medical Council of the Europe Hospitals from March 2021 to March 2024 and remains an active member.
Dr Verfaillie: "Our ability to constantly invest in new technologies remains a major asset of our hospitals and is one of the reasons why I joined the Europe Hospitals. In addition, the very pleasant working atmosphere within the hospital is an undeniable advantage. The opportunity to offer our patients a personalised service is a value that I strive to develop continuously and which is the foundation of the growing success of our neurosurgery department. In addition to technological innovation, maintaining this commitment to this service is therefore our top priority for the coming years."
In his spare time, he sings with his wife in a choir. He is a much sought-after composer in Flanders for creating new choral works. Classical music, particularly composition, is therefore currently his greatest passion, after his wife and two children.
We wish him every success in his new role.
