Appointment in Nephrology: A New Team Leading the Department

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. An van Audenhove as Head of the Nephrology Department at the Europe Hospitals. She will be supported by Dr. Liesbeth Smets, who will serve as Deputy Head of Department.  

Dr. Van Audenhove trained as an internist and nephrologist at KU Leuven and began working as a nephrologist at the Europe Hospitals in 2002. She has been actively involved in our hospital’s Ethics Committee, Medical Council, and Quality Plus, and has held various positions within the Belgian Society of Nephrology. She has also completed several management courses, including hospital management and healthcare quality. With over 20 years of hospital experience, she has a strong understanding of the hospital's operations and needs, ensuring solid collaboration, effective communication, and stability, all of which contribute to improved quality of care.  

Dr. Smets, who also trained at KU Leuven, has been working at the Europe Hospitals since 2017. She initiated the pre-dialysis clinic at the Europe Hospitals and expanded nephrology consultations to MCH in Wezembeek-Oppem. Together with Dr. Van Audenhove, she has been actively involved in Dutch-language workshops for general practitioners in recent years.  

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. François Reginster, who has led this department with dedication for over 20 years. His commitment and expertise have greatly contributed to the development of nephrology across our three dialysis sites: St-Michel, Ste-Elisabeth, and the Bella Vita Medical Center.
